1) Open your existing artwork. Make sure to use a copy of the original file!

2) Right click on the background layer in the layer bar. Select "Promote Background Layer".

3) Use the Magic Wand tool to remove the white background...

a) Click on the Magic Wand icon in the tools palette

b) In the tool presets bar, set "Mode" to "Replace", set "Match mode" to "RGB Value", set "Feather" to "1", make sure "Anti-alias" is checked and the drop-down adjacent is set to "Outside". You can experiment with the tolerance setting, but the default of 10 should work for most images with obvious borders between the image and the background.

c) Click within the background area to select the background for removal. You should see "marching ants" around your design.

d) Hit the "Delete" key on your keyboard to remove the background. You should see a "checkerboard" pattern everywhere except your actual design.

4) Preview your design on a dark background

a) Create a new layer underneath your design by right-clicking on any of the current layer bars and selecting "New Raster Layer"

b) The "New Raster Layer" dialog box will appear. Click "OK".

c) Click on this new layer bar and drag it below the layer with your design

d) Make sure a dark color like Black, Navy Blue, etc. is selected in your foreground color swatch

e) Select the "Flood Fill" tool (the icon that looks like a dripping paint bucket)

f) Click anywhere in your image to fill the new layer with your dark color. This will give you an idea how your design will look on a dark colored shirt! If you still see a "halo" around your design you might need to manually edit the border of your design or experiment with the tolerance setting in step 3b. Make sure to delete this layer before saving your image.

5) Make sure you've deleted the black/ dark background layer and then save your file...

a) On the Paint Shop Pro toolbar select "File > Save As"

b) Under the "Save as type" drop-down menu, select "Portable Network Graphics"

c) Click "Save". Now you're ready to upload your PNG file to Printfection. Congratulations!
