How do I design for dark apparel? Is it completely different than designing for white and light colors?
Designing for dark apparel is different, but relatively simple. Check out the dark apparel tutorial and you'll be ready for black in just a few minutes!
Can I use my existing images on dark apparel?
Yes... BUT you might get poor results if you're existing images are in JPG format or PNG format without transparency. On dark apparel the white areas in your design (often the background area) will no longer automatically become transparent. This includes all of the white space around your JPG images. Every JPG image is a rectangle, so unless the JPG is a photograph or full-bleed design white will show up around your image. If you don't want big white squares on your dark apparel you'll want to make sure you're creating and uploading transparent PNG images. See the dark apparel tutorial for help learning how to create transparent PNG images!
I'm having problems creating transparent PNG images... help!
You'll need a photo editing program and one of our tutorials available in our learning center. We've put together tutorials on creating a new transparent PNG image using Adobe Photoshop and a tutorial for editing an existing image to become transparent. Not using Photoshop? Visit the forums or contact us for additional help.
Can I put transparent PNG images on light colored products?
Yes! Transparent PNG's work on all of our products! You can use a single transparent PNG image on ALL current and future products & colors. It's a really good idea to make every design a transparent PNG so you won't have any compatibility problems now or in the future. We really, really suggest you read our dark apparel tutorial right now!
Does the production process take longer for dark apparel?
Yes, please allow 5 business days for production of all dark apparel in addition to the shipping time. In the near future we hope to reduce the production time to 1-3 business days (the same as light apparel). If you're in a hurry please contact us to make sure we can produce & ship your dark apparel before your deadline.
How much does it cost?
A one-sided black t-shirt is $21.99 or less. Backside printing is $6.00 additional. See our pricing and discounts page for complete pricing on all dark products.
What about sweatshirts, women's garments, BBQ aprons, etc?
Right now we're beta testing with the standard t-shirts (both short and long sleeve, adult, women and kids!). We'll add more dark colors & products soon. You gotta crawl before you walk... right?
