Fur
I always use colored papers. You will be fighting the white paper every step of the way. Choose a color that is in the mid tones of your piece. I've used a beige color for this piece.

The cute little mouse above is the picture I'll be doing the demo from. But I'm only going to do this part.

I start with a nice beige paper. This will be part of the fur color. Using white, I get the fur directions laid down.

Light umber, I keep the pencil sharp and keep in mind the length of the fur. The cheek has very short hair.

Goldenrod is next. I start filing in the areas a bit more. Not too much, I have more colors to go.

Go back with white again. This pushes some of the umber back a bit and picks out some of the lighter fur as well.

With Chocolate, I pick my way in between the other lines a bit, picking out the hair groups. I don't want it too dark.

The darkest color, Dark Umber. I'm just darkening under the groups with the ocasional long hair. A little goes a long way.

White and goldenrod, I fill in some of the areas to soften it up. I use a colorless blender lightly just to smooth the strokes

The fur on the body is longer so I make the strokes longer. Notice how my strokes have a random look to them.

Goldenrod again, I add this just as I did the cheek area. I take it into the light area, but not too much.

Back to white just as before. I blend the cheek and body area and leave some of the paper color as some of the fur color.

I add more light umber to fill in where needed. I keep turning the paper so I'm always pushing the pencil in the direction of t

That's better. Now on to Chocolate. I start with the dark area first so I don't go too dark in the other areas.

Ginger Root and Sand. The belly fur is a bit more yellow so I add these colors lightly. Dark Umber to pick out some of the hair

Done! I hope you enjoyed this demo. Although fur can be very time consuming, it's not really all that hard.
